An accurate diagnosis is the first step to fertility treatment success

Before designing a treatment plan, our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility specialists want to understand why you’re struggling to conceive. Doing so allows them to only consider the fertility treatments that will work the best in your unique situation.

Our infertility evaluation begins by taking a medical history for each partner. This basic information can reveal valuable clues to help our team reach an accurate diagnosis. In addition to the medical history, the evaluation consists of the following steps.

  • The female partner will generally undergo bloodwork to assess her hormone levels and ovarian reserve (egg supply), a physical examination, and a transvaginal ultrasound to view her reproductive organs.
  • The male partner will provide a semen sample for analysis. The semen analysis will provide information about the man’s sperm, such as his count, morphology (shape) and motility (movement).

In some cases, one or both partners may need additional testing before our team can make a definitive diagnosis and recommend treatments.

Fertility Specialists of Texas offers fertility treatments that range from basic to advanced

The causes of infertility can vary, so our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility specialists offer a wide range of fertility treatments to make pregnancy possible.

  • Recommendations for lifestyle changes, including weight loss, regular exercise and smoking cessation, are sometimes all a patient needs to conceive.
  • Oral medications for ovarian stimulation, such as Clomid and Femara, can help a woman ovulate. Our doctors may also use injectable gonadotropins to stimulate the ovaries.
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves using a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) to insert washed and prepared sperm into the uterus around the time of ovulation.
  • Minimally invasive fertility surgery can be a treatment for endometriosis, uterine polyps or fibroids, or uterine malformations.
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an advanced, multi-step process that involves ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, laboratory fertilization and embryo transfer.
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) can be an additional step during an IVF cycle. It involves injecting a single sperm into each egg.
  • Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) as part of IVF can help identify which embryos are chromosomally normal and the most likely to develop into healthy babies.
  • Third party reproduction, including donor eggs and sperm and gestational surrogacy, can help overcome certain barriers to reproduction.

Your diagnosis, family-building goals and budget will help you and your doctor determine which options will be the most likely to help you achieve fertility treatment success.
