Family Building for Gay Parents

Our team offers treatments to help with family building for gay parents

At Fertility Specialists of Texas, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to have a family. As a result, we are proud to support members of the LGBTQ community on their quest to start and grow their families. Our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility clinic team provides the fertility treatments that make family building for gay parents possible.

What does family building for gay parents involve at our clinic?

Single men and same-sex male couples will need to rely on egg donation and surrogacy to have a biological child. Our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility clinic provides both fertility services.

The journey to conceive with egg donation and surrogacy involves a few different steps, and our team will be there to guide you through each one.

Selecting an egg donor and a gestational surrogate is the first step. The egg donor will provide her eggs for the pregnancy, while the surrogate will carry it. Most men select an anonymous donor from an in-house egg donor program or use an egg donor agency. Fertility Specialists of Texas has a large in-house egg donor program with donors who have been personally screened by a staff member prior to being accepted into our program. As for surrogates, you can work with a surrogacy agency or ask a woman you know to help you welcome a baby.

Getting the donor eggs is the next step. The donor will take fertility medications to stimulate her ovaries. Then, a fertility doctor will retrieve multiple mature eggs during a short, outpatient procedure. In some cases, as with a frozen egg bank, the donor will have already completed this step when you select her.

Fertilizing the eggs with sperm comes next. You and/or partner will provide a semen sample, which will be sent to our IVF laboratory. There, the team will prepare the semen sample to obtain sperm. The laboratory professionals will then fertilize the donor eggs with the sperm, which should develop into embryos.

Transferring an embryo to the surrogate’s uterus is the final step. A fertility doctor performs the embryo transfer and then monitors the surrogate for signs of pregnancy.

Work with a fertility clinic that understands LGBTQ family building

Because family building for gay parents involves third party reproduction (egg donation and surrogacy), you want to select a clinic that understands the nuances of this area.

Our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility clinic has long served members of the LGBTQ community. We understand the medical components of family building for gay parents. Our team also appreciates the emotional and financial considerations of this process. As a result, we offer experienced and compassionate team members who can assist you with every part of your journey to bring home a healthy baby.
