Family Building for Lesbian Parents

Our team offers different options to help with family building for lesbian parents

The team at Fertility Specialists of Texas believes that all people deserve the chance to start and grow their families. That’s why we proudly support members of the LGBTQ community who want to become parents. You can rely on our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility clinic team for fertility treatments that support family building for lesbian parents.

What treatments make family building for lesbian parents possible?

Same-sex female couples who want to have a biological child can do so with help from treatments that involve sperm donation. This sperm can come from an anonymous donor from a sperm bank. It’s also possible to ask a friend or a relative to be a sperm donor.

At our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility clinic, we offer three different family building options that can help lesbian patients become parents.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) with donor sperm is the most-basic treatment option. Also known as artificial insemination, IUI involves using a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) to place sperm into the uterus. This option for family building for lesbian parents helps the sperm get where it needs to be to fertilize an egg.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) with donor sperm can be a great option for women who have fertility issues. Our doctors also recommend it if patients want to have preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) on their embryos.

This treatment starts with ovarian stimulation. The woman who will provide her eggs will take fertility medications to help her ovaries produce multiple eggs. The fertility doctor will then retrieve these eggs and send them to the IVF laboratory. There, the team will fertilize the eggs with donor sperm. The fertilized eggs will develop into embryos. Then, the fertility doctor will transfer one of the embryos to the uterus of the woman who will carry the pregnancy.

Reciprocal IVF with donor sperm allows both partners in a same-sex female relationship to play an active role in the process. It involves all the same steps of traditional IVF with donor sperm, but there is one difference. One woman will provide her eggs and the other woman will carry the pregnancy.

Find a fertility clinic with experience in LGBTQ family building

Family building for lesbian parents requires third party reproduction (sperm donation). This means you should only work with a fertility clinic that understands this advanced area of reproductive medicine.
