We educate patients about lifestyle factors for infertility
At Fertility Specialists of Texas, our team believes that knowledge is power. Our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility doctors strive to help patients understand their fertility. This includes providing information about lifestyle factors for infertility.
Weight and smoking are lifestyle factors for infertility
Weight can affect your fertility. In fact, weighing too much or too little can alter your body’s hormonal function and chances for a successful pregnancy. When body-fat levels exceed 10-15% above normal, an overload of estrogen can throw off the reproductive cycle. On the other end of the spectrum, body-fat levels 10-15% below normal can shut down the reproductive process completely.
Smoking is another one of the lifestyle factors for infertility. Cigarette usage decreases pregnancy rates and increases the chance for a miscarriage. Women who want to conceive should avoid all forms of tobacco products, including exposure to second-hand smoke.
Stress is another infertility factor
Stress can have a profound impact on your sense of emotional and physical well-being. Feelings of depression, anxiety, frustration, isolation and anger are all common among women experiencing difficulty with conception. Some studies have shown a correlation between pregnancy rates and a woman’s degree of emotional distress.
Many patients report great results from alternative therapies like yoga, meditation and acupuncture. We would be happy to provide information or referrals. Please use the contact us form and our new patient coordinator will follow-up with details.
