When to Move to IVF

 April 6th, 2021

We can help you decide when to move to IVF

We can help you decide when to move to IVFPatients who visit Fertility Specialists of Texas often hope to conceive using treatments like fertility medications and intrauterine insemination (IUI), or artificial insemination. These basic fertility treatments can be very effective for many patients. However, some women and men need to rely on in vitro fertilization (IVF) to have a healthy baby.

If you’ve been trying artificial insemination without success, you might be wondering when to transition from IUI to IVF. Our Dallas-Fort Worth infertility clinic team is here to help you decide when to move to IVF.

How to decide when to move to IVF

Sometimes, patients come to our Dallas-Fort Worth infertility clinic after being unsuccessful with IUI cycles elsewhere. In other cases, our team decides to modify our own treatment plans to transition from IUI to IVF. When might this occur?

  • A woman is over the age of 35. Female fertility declines over time, and this decline becomes more pronounced around age 35. For women over 35 who are struggling to conceive, IVF is often the fastest path to motherhood.
  • A patient has had multiple failed IUI cycles. When patients have had several failed IUI cycles, our team often recommends moving to IVF.
  • A patient using donor eggs. Sometimes, a woman’s egg quality is so low that donor eggs are the best option. If we discover this is the case for a patient, we will recommend transitioning from IUI to IVF.

We will use our knowledge and experience to let you know when to move to IVF. However, you are always in control at our Dallas-Fort Worth infertility clinic. As a result, our team will never force you to pursue a treatment you don’t feel comfortable with.

How are IUI and IVF different?

When you transition from IUI to IVF, you will move from a more-basic treatment to an advanced one. IUI involves using a catheter to place washed and prepared sperm from your partner or a donor into your uterus. In contrast, IVF involves several steps to make parenthood possible.

  • Ovarian stimulation
  • Egg retrieval
  • Laboratory fertilization
  • Embryo transfer

Using our expertise in reproductive medicine, we will walk you through each step to help make your IVF cycle a success. Contact us to schedule an appointment if you would like to learn more about when to move to IVF. We are always happy to answer your questions on your path to welcome a baby.
