 October 12th, 2021

Taking time to acknowledge Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

Taking time to acknowledge Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness MonthNo one should ever have to lose a child, but tens of thousands of families across the United States face pregnancy or infant loss. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, which is a time to recognize the grief that these families face. It’s also a chance to acknowledge the lives of the babies who are gone too soon.

The Fertility Specialists of Texas team stands with patients who need help with overcoming miscarriage or welcoming a baby after losing a child. From offering understanding and support to providing the latest fertility treatments, our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility center strives to make October a time of hope.

Overcoming miscarriage is possible with the right treatments

It might not seem like it after facing pregnancy or infant loss, but it is possible to become a parent again. In fact, many people are able to welcome a baby even after facing multiple miscarriages. However, it will often take a little help from a fertility specialist to make it possible.

At our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility center, your doctor will start by reviewing your family, medical and fertility history. He or she will then order a series of tests to determine what may have caused the miscarriage or miscarriages. Below are some common examples of fertility tests for recurrent pregnancy loss.

  • Bloodwork to assess levels of reproductive hormones or the immune system
  • Chromosomal testing, including products of conception testing
  • Ultrasound to identify abnormalities in the uterus and ovaries

Once your doctor receives your test results, you will work together to develop a customized fertility treatment plan for you. The best treatment will vary depending on your diagnosis.

For example, if uterine abnormalities like polyps or fibroids caused the miscarriage, minimally invasive surgery may help. In other cases, fertility medications or treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF) are the best solution.

Remembering the little ones during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

Our Dallas-Fort Worth fertility center is here to help patients with overcoming miscarriage. However, we also believe it’s important to remember the little lives that our patients have lost. That’s why we acknowledge Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Here are some ways you can do it.

  • Light a candle at 7:00 pm on October 15 to create an International Wave of Light to honor all the babies we have lost.
  • Share facts and statistics on social media to raise awareness about how common pregnancy and infant loss are.
  • Share your story with others to keep your child’s memory alive forever.

We know that it might not feel like it now, but you can welcome a healthy baby and enjoy the magic of parenthood. Contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our caring doctors and take the first step.
